Mumbai: Every day, hundreds of women across the country fall victim to rape. Yet, rapists often get off scot-free, and very few perpetrators are ever punished. “In my opinion, even the death penalty is too lenient a punishment for a rapist. Rapists must be handed down the harshest possible punishment so that no one ever even contemplates committing such an act,” stated writer, producer, and director Ajay Ram during the trailer launch of his upcoming web series, “Smriti.”
The web series’ heart-wrenching trailer was unveiled at a grand launch event held in Mumbai. Based on a burning social issue, the series is set to be released soon on the OTT platform “CRF Studios.” Produced under the banner of C.R. Films Productions, the series features a cast including Ayushi Tiwari, Gaurav Singh, Shubhangi Sharma, Shikhar, Asit Kumar Pradhan, Rishabh Sharma, Hemant Sharma, Simran, Tanvi, Aman Chaudhary, and Ankit Agarwal. Guests present at the trailer launch included Yogesh Lakhani of Bright Outdoor Media, actress Madhumita Biswas, director-producer Vinod Nagar from Nivan Entertainment, and actress Lizza Singh. Musician Masood Iqbal was also in attendance.
On the occasion of the trailer launch, a melodious song from the series—titled “Piya Sang Dori” was also screened filmed on Ayushi Tiwari. Ayushi Tiwari, who plays the title role of Smriti in the series, remarked, “Smriti was a girl who was always full of life and happiness; however, a tragic incident befalls her, shattering her life completely. How she subsequently returns as a vengeful spirit to exact her revenge forms the major twist of the series, offering audiences a thrilling blend of horror and suspense.”
Gaurav Singh, who plays a negative role in the series, stated that through this film, the entire team aims to convey a powerful message: if every rapist were to view the girl they target as they would their own mother or sister, the crime of rape would cease to exist entirely. For when someone is raped, it is not merely their body that is violated; rather, their soul and emotions are also trampled upon. It is imperative that this evil be eradicated from society.
