Sheena Chohan’s Pan-India Rise Continues, Impresses Javed Akhtar

Mumbai, November 2025: Actress Sheena Chohan recently captivated audiences and peers alike at the Cultural Kaarva’n event, where she was invited as a featured speaker for a special discussion on “The Changing Trends in Theatre, Cinema, and OTT.” The event brought together an impressive lineup of celebrated artists and filmmakers, including Javed Akhtar, Divya Dutta, Kirti Kulhari, Manu Rishi Chaddha, and Deepak Dobriyal, among others.

A Moment of Connection with Javed Akhtar

One of the most memorable highlights of the evening came during Sheena’s interaction with legendary poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar. When Sheena spoke about her recent Hindi film Sant Tukaram—in which she portrays Avali Jija Bai—Akhtar expressed deep admiration and personal connection to the subject.

The acclaimed lyricist shared how the story of Sant Tukaram resonates with him as a poet, reflecting on how many poets throughout history—particularly women—often remained unheard or uncredited. He poignantly remarked that some even disguised themselves as men to ensure their words were recognized. Moved by Sheena’s performance and the film’s theme, Akhtar conveyed his keen interest in watching Sant Tukaram, commending the effort to bring Maharashtra’s rich literary and spiritual heritage to the national forefront.

Celebrating Meaningful Storytelling

For Sheena Chohan, the acknowledgment from a stalwart like Javed Akhtar marked a deeply meaningful milestone. “It was an honour to share the stage with Javed Akhtar Saab, Divya Dutta ji, Kirti Kulhari, and so many respected names. To have my dedication to creating characters and meaningful cinema recognized in that space truly means a lot,” Sheena shared.

Her journey reflects a steady and purposeful evolution — from theatre to regional cinema, and now to national and multilingual platforms. Over the years, Sheena has earned recognition for her versatility, including a Best Actress nomination for the Bengali film Ant Story (later acquired by Netflix), acclaimed performances in Malayalam cinema, and strong appearances on OTT platforms such as The Fame Game (with Madhuri Dixit) and The Trial (with Kajol).

Expanding Horizons

Following the nationwide release of Sant Tukaram, Sheena is now gearing up for her Telugu debut in the upcoming five-language pan-India film Jhatasya Maranam Dhruvam, co-starring JD Chakravarthy, slated to release by the end of the year.

A Performer Rooted in Purpose

In a gathering filled with eminent artists, Sheena Chohan stood out — not through spectacle, but through the quiet conviction of her craft. Her interaction with Javed Akhtar underscored her dedication to stories that are rich in culture, emotion, and meaning — reaffirming that in the world of cinema, authentic artistry continues to find its audience.
